Tein Super Street Re-adjustment

Previously, ER34 somehow handled a bit weird when it's flung around long sweeping bends. Somehow it felt a little bit unstable and not as planted as before. It has been a long while in that condition but the silly me just shrugged it off as perhaps due to my worn tyres.

However, after I changed to the new tyres, the problem still persists. There must be something wrong. What could it be? I decided to check my damping on the Tein Super Street as the first step.

Pic 1: Just a quick turn clockwise to set it to the hardest

Horrors that be, the front right side was set to the softest while the left side was set to the hardest.
Some low-life idiot must have decided to tamper with my damping adjustment!!! Damn it, no wonder it felt weird. This must be the handiwork of some itchy hand fellows while the ER34 was at the workshop. &%$#@!*

Well, since I'm readjusting it, I set it all round to the hardest setting. I mean the current setting was perfect for me. A good trade off for daily normal commute and the occasional spirited drives. But I wanted to try something a little bit harder. Think of it as a prelude to see how I can take it if I decided to upgrade to something from the Tein catalogue.

The verdict? The ride now is very firm and bordering to being uncomfortable for daily usage but I'll stick to it now and see how it goes. I think it'll grow on me. :)

Tein Performance Strut Bar Installed

Just got the Tein Performance Strut Bar installed into the ER34. Here are some pictures of how the engine bay looks like now. :)

How I wish it was adonized in blue instead of green. Sigh...

Initial post here.

Tein Performance Bar Strut Brace

Pic 1: Tein Performance Bar strut brace

Just got hold of the Tein Performance Bar strut brace (Part No. PBN62-0100) for the ER34. The Tein Performance Bar strut brace provide the best quality strut braces around; designed to work with coilover applications and are compatible with the Tein EDFC system (I don't have EDFC tho).

A strut brace is the bar that goes between the top of the suspension struts and stops unwanted flex by locking them in position. This removes unwanted movement in the suspension which in turn gives tighter, more predictable handling.

Pic 3: Stainless bolt and nut

I weigh the Tein strut brace in my old trusty electronic scale and it didn't manage to register any weight! LOL :D

According to the shipping advice, plus packaging it only weigh 168gm. So I reckon the strut brace only weights slightly over a hundred grammes! Holy shit! That's light!

Why so light?

The Tein Performance Bar strut brace is made with ultra light-weight and highly rigid aluminum shafts, thus ensuring to increase the rigidity of the vehicle and to bring out the suspension's full potential.

The mounting plates are also made of aluminum and anodized with Tein's green image color . Also, it features stainless bolts and nuts connecting the plate and the shaft, which are highly rust-proof and light.

This item costs JPY18,900. Even though the ER34 already has a factory strut brace, many have experienced further improvement in handling with this unit. Plus it looks great under the hood. :P

I bought this on impulse. Now contemplating to install it or not.......

Dead Rear Damper Part 2

Well, the search continued on for the elusive ER34 stock rear dampers. I reached the point where I can't stand the darn knocking sound created from the rear dampers hitting the bump stops. Thus in the end, I decided to look for brand new replacements.

I did countless searches and obtained many quotes from the Internet to get either the below:-

Spring Rates: F6.4km/mm & R4.6kg/mm

1) Nismo G-Attack S Tune (Part No. 5300S-RSR40)

Spring Rates : F5.0kg/mm & R4.0kg/mm

2) Tein Super Street Damper with Pillowball Uppermounts (Part No. GSN62-B1SS3)
Spring Rates: 7.0kg/mm & R5.0kg/mm

3) HKS Hipermax II (Part No. 1760-SN013)

Apart from the above, I also looked at building a custom unit from Australia with Bilstein shocks and Whiteline Spings.

All the quotes were actually quite good but the cost to get it delivered to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is hefty due to its weight of 32 kilograms. Insurance and handling fee are manageable.

In addition, it will take at least 3 weeks to reach here from Japan/Australia and I might have to deal with taxes from Customs as well.

In the end, I narrow down my choice to the Tein Super Street Damper with Pillowball Uppermounts due to it receiving rave reviews from users around the world. Today I went shopping at the local speedshops. Went to quite a number of shops and found one that has it in stock BUT it was sold just last week. Damn!!!

After looking around somemore, it's actually quite amazing that someone else actually stock a set of the Tein Super Street Damper. Cool!! Ready stock and I can get it there and then. Screw the time consuming task of importing one in ownself. I can get it fitted in a couple of days time and be inspired to corner without worries!!

PLUS today is my Birthday and it's nice to pamper oneself with a gift, no? :P

(I'll worry about the credit card bills later. Hahahaha.....uhm.......)
