Super GT Rd 4 in Sepang International Circuit

Pic 1: Start of Super GT Rd. 4

The Super GT round 4 in Sepang International Circuit was won by HASEMI TOMICA EBBRO GT-R driven by Ronnie Quintarelli and Hironobu Yasuda for their first victory of the season.

The HASEMI TOMICA EBBRO GT-R’s starting driver, Quintarelli, kept that lead to lap 30 before turning the wheel over to teammate Yasuda at the routine pit stop. Once Yasuda took over, he was never threatened for the lead, due in part to a furious battle for 2nd position raging behind him. Eventually, he ran on to victory with a big lead over the field.

In the GT300 class, the I.M JIHAN CO. LTD APPLE Shiden driven by Hiroki Katoh and Hiroki Yoshimoto staged an furious charge from the very back of the pack to win a stunning victory. It’s indeed an amazing feat to start at the tail end to become the podium winner!

Overall, I felt that the Super GT this year is not what like it used to be. There were little marketing and promotions done and the crowd peaked at only 30,000 people on raceday. This is a far cry from what it used to be. And if not for the free entries for those JDM owners who displayed their cars, school kids, corporate passes, free tickets, etc......the crowd would be even lesser.

I've been to every single Super GT round in Malaysia since it started in the year 2000 (minus year 2003 when the event was canceled due to SARS outbreak). I dare say that the enthusiasm has somewhat dwindled compared to when it first came here.

Did you say Race Queens? Yes of course they were there. Race Queens are afterall part of the race, and plays an important role to uplift atmosphere. But I do think the quality uhm...dropped year after year. :P

I will post more pics of cars and race queens later. Need time to choose and edit my 5,400 pics. Plus now also on the road due to work. :(

Accord Skyline in the making....

Pic 1: R34 headlights on a CD Accord

The other day, I came across this fifth generation Honda Accord (CD chassis) that is undergoing a conversion to a R34 Skyline look. The owner has already fitted in the front headlights and rear taillights from the R34 Skyline. Along with it I also spot the R34 GTT Altia front bumper and stock rear bumper ready to match.

Note the huge wheels that is jutting out from the wheel wells. The wheel arches has been cut to accomodate them! Those wheels looks to me like the Rays Engineering Gram Lights T57-RC. I bet the final look of the vehicle will widebody style.

Can't wait to see the final product. :)
