BNR32 Halfcut

Pic 1: BNR32 halfcut

Helping a mate of mine sell this. So yeah, it's not like I have a halfcut lying around at home. LOL :D

This is a BNR32 halfcut. Come with the whole front cut plus all seats (FR & RR), Blitz exhaust, prop shaft, complete rear axle, etc... (and lots more)

One of the plugs is flooded thus suspect a piston is dead. Block is ok thus a piston replacement is needed and it will be fine. A lot of goodies in the car as evident from the pics; Okada Project Coils, HKS Intercooler, Apexi air filter, Zeal coilovers, etc.....

No. Will NOT strip parts off it. Selling as a package.

Please email me (eujin[at]hotmail[dot]com) if there is any queries. Worldwide delivery can be arranged.

Running both MAF and MAP sensor in the ER34?

As a follow up to my previous post on the Apexi Power FC, I wish to share that the Power FC unit that I have, which is the L-Jetro version runs on Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF). And of course I'm going to pair it with the Z32 AFM for bigger flow measuring potential.

There is also D-Jetro version of the Power FC. D-Jetro on the other hand uses a Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP). There is no D-Jetro version of the Power FC for the ER34 but is available for the BNR34.

Pic 1: Apexi Boost Control Kit

So anyway, my point is that the Power FC will not be able to read the boost reading via the hand commander as it has no method of reading it in via the stock ECU loom. There is a way to get around this though and that is to purchase the Apexi Boost Control Kit.

Pic 2: Apexi Boost Control Kit

But like mentioned, I've already had the HKS EVC 4 to control my boost and I do not need another boost controller. So what can be done is to get the MAP sensor and MAP sensor harness from the Apexi Boost Control Kit. The solenoid thus is not required. These two items may seem small and trivial but mind you it's not that cheap. Damn JDM stuffs all are costly. WTF!

Two sensors?? Yes, one can run BOTH MAF and MAP in the ER34. :O

How? Well, the MAF will be used for reading the air fuel ratio while the MAP will be used solely for the function monitoring the boost level. The MAP sensor will be connected directly to the Power FC.

Pic 3: MAP Sensor

I was told the MAP sensor is pretty hard to source for a used item. Well, I've got one on hand. :)

Oh, by the way, the MAP sensor is actually made by Denso. One thing to note is that the harness has 3 pins while the Power FC ECU have 5 pins. It will work no worries, just plug it in the middle, i.e. from pin 2 to pin 4.

Pic 4: MAP Sensor

Each pin represents voltage, signal and ground respectively. So there you have it. If you plan to read boost from your Power FC hand commander, you know how it's done. :)

I was going to use it in my car but on second thought, I think I'll put this up for sale. So for those who want to read boost from your Hand Commander, shoot me an email and we can work out a deal.

Pic 4: This is for sale. Yes inclusive of the Samco silicone hoses it will go with.

Apexi Power FC with Hand Commander

Pic 1: What's in the box??

With greater power comes greater engine management (sorry can't help it with this line). :P

Well not exactly greater power in my case but when one fiddles with the car more and touches on aspects that will affect air fuel ratio, fuelling, ignition timing, etc .... invariably the brain of the car would need to be tweaked to accommodate these changes.

Some opt for piggyback systems to trick the factory ECu to modify its parameters. Of course this works and would cost less damage to the wallet, but this also slightly inferior to a full remap of the ECU.

Pic 2: The unveiling. Hehe

Now this is where full-blown stand alone ECU replacement comes into the picture. Many regard the Apexi Power FC as the ultimate aftermarket stand-alone ECU for the RB series engine. The main reasons is pretty clear:-

- It utilizes the factory wiring harness. Just plug it in.
- Availability and access to many tuners (some even tune it themselves).

- Superior compared to generic ECUs as Power FC is engine specific thus items like cold idling shouldn't be much of an issue
- etc...

Of course there are other options out there with more mapping points like the HKS FCON VPro which has 32X32 load map versus Power FC's 20X20 load map. HKS FCON VPro is thus more expensive but the main issue with it is the availability of tuners as only HKS appointed dealers could tune the ECU. And tuning fees are sky high.

Pic 3: Apexi Power FC!!

The good thing about Power FC is that it comes preloaded with a base map tuned for basic modifications such as exhaust, boost controller and air filter upgrade. As such, you can just plug it in and drive away before more refined tuning is done on the dyno/road.

Below is a list of available functions on the Power FC for the ER34

MONITORING
AirTemp - Air Temperature Airflow
Airflow Meter Voltage
BatVolt - Battery Voltage
Boost - Boost Pressure (Bar)
Eng Rev - Engine RPM
IgnTmng - Ignition Timing
InjDuty - Injector Duty
Knock - Knock Sensor
Speed - Speed KM/H
WtrTemp - Water Temperature

SETTING
Acceler. - Acceleration Enrichment
Airflow - Airflow Meter Voltage Table
Boost - Boost Pressure
Cranking - Cold Start Cranking Table
Ign Map - Ignition Map
Ign/Inj - Ignition and Injection Temporary Adjust
Inj Map - Injection Map
Injector - Injector Latency
Rev/Idle - Rev and Idle Settings
Wtr Temp - Water Temp Correction Table

Pic 4: This is what's inside a complete Power FC set. :)

The Power FC can also be used to control boost via an optional boost controller kit. This kit consists of Map Sensor, Map Sensor Harness and a Solenoid. I already have the HKS EVC 4 installed thus would not require the boost control kit. Besides there have been not so great reports of this kit.

I have in my hand two (2) sets of the Power FC completed with hand controller. Yes it's not a typo, I have TWO sets of this ECU. You all know how rare it is since Apexi has discontinued it already. So if you're keen, shoot me an email via eujin[at]hotmail[dot]com. Ridiculously low price offers will not be entertained. :)

Only 1 set will be for sale as uhmm.... I'll need the other unit for my small project later on. :P

Found: ER34 half-cut

Half-cuts of the ER34 are extremely hard to find. The vehicle is still very much popular in Japan and if there's any half-cuts, it'll probably go to Australia, New Zealand or United Kingdom where they can afford to pay higher prices for it.

Well, I chanced upon a unit recently with some nice parts in it. The half-cut I found has:-

1) Aluminium radiator
2) Silicone radiator hoses
3) Nismo radiator cap
4) Apexi bubble tank
5) Blitz oil cooler with oil filter relocation kit
6) Blitz LM intercooler kit
7) Blitz SUS power core type LM air filter
8) Apexi N1 coilovers
9) Nismo tension rods

I am interested in a few of the items but too bad, the owner of the half-cut isn’t particularly interested in taking off parts from the unit. Everything will go as a whole for a cool asking price of RM 15,000 (USD 4,440). :O

Here are some pictures of it....

Pic 1: The ER34 half-cut. It was involved in a front end side collision

Pic 2: Blitz Oil Cooler. Love the side mount. Should have ordered this instead of my GReddy/Trust one.

Pic 3: Blitz LM front mount intercooler. One of the intercooler pipe and silicone hose is torn from the accident.

Pic 4: Engine bay. Note the aluminium radiator, silicone radiator hoses, apexi bubble tank with Nismo radiator cap

My Proton Perdana V6 has moved on........

It is with great sadness that my ever faithful Proton Perdana V6 that had served me since year 2000 has moved on. It is officially handed over to the new owner on Tuesday, 25th July 2006. During these 6 years, many effort and time has been poured into turning the vehicle to handle better, brake better and gives out a tad more power than it originally had. It is also my only weapon for my speed fixes. Took the babe out for many autocross/gymkhana competitions, track days in Batu Tiga and Sepang International Circuit and of course not discounting the countless hill drives up to Bukit Tinggi, Frasiers Hill and Genting Highland.

The only memory of it now are just some pictures as below:-

You will be missed.........
