Nissan Skyline Mega Gathering in Malaysia 2011

Pic 1: The cars at the gathering

Recently, the Nissan Skyline owners in Malaysia had an gathering at the federal administrative centre of the country, Putrajaya. Basically, it's a meet up session to mingle around snap some photos before heading out to the nearest food stall for a bit of chowder and more chit chat.

I reckon there were close to 40 Skylines comprising of R32, R33 and R34 Skylines plus a lone V35 Skyline. Most of the lot were ER34 and BNR34s though. It would have been excellent if there were older Skylines present like the R31s around.

Took some pictures and a video. Do check them out below.

DILYSI #18: Frasiers Hill

Pic 1: The group setting off - Dinesh right at my rear. Note DARK skies.

After a long hiatus on the DILYSI sessions and doing a recce trip 2 weeks back, DILYSI #18 took place last weekend to none other than Frasiers Hill. I have had many sessions to Frasiers Hill in the ER34 and before that in my Proton Perdana V6. I really love the route and what it has to offer in terms of driving enjoyment.

What is different in DILYSI #18 was the weather. This is by far the worst ever weather I have had going up Frasiers Hill. It was raining pretty heavily thus the roads were drenched! To add more drama, as we get closer to The Gap, the roads were littered heavily with leaves and tree branches. Add a couple of fallen tress and landslides, it really does gets very unnerving.

And I was driving a little bit faster than I should in these sort of conditions. Not a really wise thing to do I must say. All the seven of us (2 ER34, 1 BCNR33, 1 BNR32, 1 ECR33 and 2 A31) would probably be finding it a bit of a handful to drive hard as we got nearer to Frasiers Hill, and as the weather worsens.

There's some incidents enroute and the drive was cut short. We didn't even make it to The Gap.
We were probably 5 km away to that. Oh well, as long as everyone is ok. Not sure when will the next DILYSI be .......... somehow I think I might want to retire from driving my ER34 like I've just stolen it and my life is worth half a penny.

A mix of Proton Perdana and BNR32 + BCNR33

Pic 1: Rear BCNR33 look on a Proton Perdana

From the last blog entry on BCNR33/BNR34 hybrid?, many have commented that the vehicle that was converted to look like a Nissan Skyline was a Proton Perdana (aka Mitsubishi Eterna chassis code E54). My old ride!! Gosh I miss that car and the purr of the V6 engine. :)

It was in fact a Nissan Cefiro (A32).

So since many thought it looked like a Proton Perdana, here's come pictures of Proton Perdana that was converted to look like a BCNR33.
I got these pictures via online forums on the net.

BCNR33/BN34 hybrid?

Pic 1: BNR34 front

Guess what I saw on my way to work today? This is a unique and one of its kind 'Skyline'. It has a R34 front and R33 rear. It even has a ER34 rear spoiler out at the back.

Do you know what car it is? :P

Dead Rear Damper Part 1

The ER34 had a clunking sound at the rear right side since I got it. The sound only appeared when the vehicle rides over uneven roads. Initially I thought it was the tool set or the spare wheel cover. After removal of the tool set and the cover, the metallic clunking noise still persists. Hmmmmm......what could be making those noises?? It's beginning to irritate me tremendously.

Subsequent checks of the vehicle while up on a hoist revealed that the right rear damper have leaked of all its oils. Damn it. That's what making all those noises. With the lowered coil springs, the car was hitting on the bump stops day in day out.

Pic 1: ECR33 OEM rear dampers

Thank god my buddy Andrew managed to secure a set of replacement dampers. It's tough looking for an ER34 or BNR34 OEM damper thus we will have to make do with a set from a BCNR33. I got the dampers late yesterday nite. My bud delivered it to me while I was trying to get myself tipsy in the local neighbourhood pub. Hehehe.....

Anyway, when I took a good look at it the next morning. It seems A-Ok. Looks the business. While surfing later that day, I notice that the BNR33 dampers have forks at the end instead of rounded with rubber bushings. Hmmm....this is not right!

Pic 2: Stock ER34 rear damper

Pic 3: Stock ER34 rear damper have forks at the end

Better to crawl under the car for a good look. Oh darn it!! The ER34 dampers have forks on 'em which means:-
1) The set I have won't fit
2) The set I have are NOT BNR33 dampers but are ECR33 dampers!

Lucky I have not gone to the mechanic to get it changed else I'll look like a fool and would have wasted money for nothing.

Oh shucks! Now I'm back to square one. Gonna return these dampers back.......
(Wait for Part 2 where I hope I'll get it right this time)
